Welcome All To The Hidden Gems By Giri The Gallivanter.
This week, we are going to learn about something different and unique location. It's not about any hidden unknown hills with viewpoints and all, but related to food. Yes!! You hear it right. So without creating further curiosity, let's get into this week's location.
Do you know.?
Indian Army's Madras regiment runs a dosa point at the highest place you could get a dosa! It's at 14,000 ft enroute to Gurudongmar lake, Sikkim. Imagine eating a hot ghee dosa at this freezing cold place at the world's highest dosa point.❄️ The taste of hot dosa with chutney and sambhar in that cold weather will be such a divine experience.
ABOUT AWWA :
AWWA is the acronym for Army Wives Welfare Association. As the association works for the welfare of the spouses, children and dependents of the Army personnel, it is aptly referred as the invisiblehands that shape the punch of the Indian Army. The association has been officially registered as a Welfare Society with the Registrar of Societies, Delhi Administration on 23 August 1966; the day being celebrated as AWWA Day. It is one of the largest voluntary organizationsin India that has charted its course for fulfilling the societal obligation through social empowerment and skill building of spouses and dependents of Army personnel since inception. AWWA aims at the holistic development and well-being of Army Wives including their children and rehabilitation of war widows and differently-abled children.
ABOUT THE DOSA POINT :
Located on national highway from Gangtok to Siliguri on the banks of Teesta river, this is a very good eating joint run by the Army people, AWWA. They serve mainly South Indian food along with tea and coffee and the food is awesome. They have a restaurant to sit and eat inside and also a gazebo outside at the river bank. View from the place is extremely mesmerizing. Enjoy food near river side here. Salute to Indian Defence Forces.
Inside The Restaurant :
Outside The Restaurant (River Side) :
It's a well maintained and reasonably priced restaurant. It's recommended to leave from gangtok early in the morning to avoid traffic and have your breakfast here.
It will be a best halt between Siliguri and Gangtok. Stop and take a break here, with such a river side hill view. Since the place is maintained by Indian Army, it's well maintained, clean and neat. Even the toilets are maintained clean. A must stop to have a coffee, tea or eat south Indian food. Mainly dosa and hot idlis. Sit outside on the bank of Teesta river and enjoy the break. Approximately 30 kms before Gangtok city. So... "Break to Banta hai".
They have an exclusive parking for the Harley Davidson Bikes (HOGs) and also offer a discount to bikers.
Overall a great experience. A must visit place.
That's it from this week's Hidden Gem. Hope it's short and crispy. See you all in next week with another Hidden Gem in India. Till that, it's bye from The Gallivanter, Giri
Eager to go to this place....
